Abstract

19,577. Hammond, G. Sept. 9. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Consists in arranging the combined closing and firing spring 39 of an automatic pistol in a well behind the magazine between two sliding abutments 46, 37, the lower one 37 of which is connected by a link 35 to the hammer, while the upper one 46 engages a cranked lever 43, Fig. 4, connected to the breech-bolt 20. The slide 46 also rests on a bevelled spring detent 47, Fig. 3, for delaying the opening during automatic firing. Means comprising a lever 50, Fig. 4, and a link 53 are provided for releasing the detent 47 when it is desired to retract the bolt by hand. A stud on the boltactuating lever engages a cam-surface on the sear-actuating link, and disengages the link from the sear during the opening movement.
