Abstract

30,077. Agnelli, G. Dec. 31. Breech actions, sliding breech-block; breech actions, sliding barrel and breech-block.-Relates to automatic guns in which the breech-bolt is rotated for locking by means of a non-rotary firing-pin, and consists in making the engaging cam-surfaces between the firing-pin and breechbolt helicoidal, and in operating the firing-pin by the recoil spring which, however, does not form the firing-spring, the firing-pin remaining slightly to the @ear until struck by a pivoted hammer. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the cam-surface on the firing-pin P is formed on a sliding spring tooth s, mounted on a lug z at the bottom of the firing-pin and pressed forwards by a spring m. In Fig. 1, the firing-pin is shown balanced between the recoil spring M and the spring m with its point a short distance to the @ear of the cartridge. In the modification shown in Figs. 7 and 8, the cam-surface is formed on the solid lug z of the firing-pin. Near the end of the closing movement, the firing-pin is retained by the auxiliary sear b, the breech-block completing its closing movement by its momentum. The sear b is released, during the fall of the hammer k, by a step r on the hammer boss.
