Relates to firing-mechanism in which the striker C is connected to a cocking and firing lever B held in the retracted position by means of a sear D<1> the lever having a projection B<1> which, by engagement with a toe-piece d, positively moves the sear into engagement with the lever. According to the invention, the engagement between the projection B<1> and toe-piece d is such that over cocking movement of the lever is permitted, and at the same time the sear is retained in its engaging position by the passage of the projection B<1> into a recess d<1> on the sear.
