Abstract
8478. Dawson, Sir A. T., and Buckham, G. T. April 29, 1913. Ordnance breech mechanism. - Relates to safety devices for the firing-mechanism of guns having wedge-breech actions. According to the invention, (1) a projection e is formed on the cocking and firing lever E, which, when the firing-mechanism is over-cocked during the opening of the breech, as shown in Fig. 1, engages the arm f of the sear F and positively moves this into engagement with the bent on the lever E, and (2) the pivoted safety catch G for the sear is weighted, so that if the spring G' of the catch should fail to act, it will be moved by inertia into engagement with the sear at the instant the sliding movement of the breech-block B is stopped during the closing of the breech.
