Abstract

16,584. Deygas, B. F. R. July 12, 1913, [Convention date]. Piston pumps. - Relates particularly to small vacuum handpumps used in the manufacture of ice by evaporation in the presence of a hygroscopic liquid. To obviate the compression which occurs at the end of the stroke in pumps which work in oil as a sealing-liquid, and to improve the circulation of the oil, two openings u, v are provided at the end of the cylinder a, in communication with both sides of the piston when at the end of its descending stroke. By this provision, the air or oil imprisoned under the piston can pass away to the lateral chamber t. The lower end of the pump is connected with the upper oil chamber i by a pipe, the opening s to which is uncovered at the end of each descending stroke by reason of the head m of pump-rod c striking the flexible cap j, which in turn depresses the lever n and raises the closing-rod o. The pipe x communicates with the receptacle in which the vacuum is to be produced.
