Abstract
14,992. Sumner, P. J. H. June 23. Crank linkages. -Gearing for driving a shaft 6 in one direction irrespective of the direction of motion of a driving- shaft 7<1> comprises a reciprocating plunger 11 connected to these shafts respectively through connecting-rods 2, 1 and crank-disks 4, 3. A pawl 13 cooperating w i t h notches 15, 16 on the disk 4 provents that disk from turning backwards when passing its deadcentres. In the arrangement shown, the shaft 6 carries a cam 6<1> for operating the valves of an internal-combustion engine, and the shaft 7' is driven through gearing 7, 8, 9 from the engine crank-shaft 10. When the engine is reversed by suitable means, the cam 6<1> turns as before.
Improvements in or relating to Mechanism for Altering the Angular Relationship between Co-axial Rotary Bodies, with Special Reference to the Reversing Gear of Internal Combustion Engines.
