June 12, 1918, [Convention date].- Valve-gear.-In an engine having double-acting cylinders 1 in line with air-compressing pumps 3, co-axial shafts 23, 23<x> carry cams for actuating the scavenging-air admission valves 37 and the mixture admission valves 15 respectively, the scavenging-air valves also serving to admit compressed air for starting. The cam-shafts are operated by toothed gearing driven from a magneto shaft, to which motion is imparted by the crankshaft through a chain drive. An inclined intermediate shaft transmits motion from the magneto shaft to the cam-shafts.
