Link-motions and linkage gears.-The valverod j is connected to one end of a pivoted link a, oscillated by the end of the rod g of a single eccentric d, which is adjusted in the link for reversing purposes. The extremities of the link are curved with a radius from the centre of the eccentric, and the pivot c of the link lies on a line through the crank-shaft centre perpendicular to the line joining the centres of the crank-shaft and eccentric when the crank is on a dead-centre. The travel of the valve is adjusted by moving the eccentricrod end in the extremities of the slot i. The middle of the slot is enlarged to allow for the reciprocation of the rod g during the reversal of the engine.
