Pressure-regulating valves.-A piston-actuated pressure-regulating or surplus-pressure valve, of the type controlled by a diaphragm-actuated auxiliary valve has the main piston fitted with a flexible disk or cup-leather packing and has a dirt guard fixed on the valve spindle just above the cylinder. The main valve 1 is loaded by a spring 8 and is actuated by a piston 4 working in a cylinder 6 connected to the outlet side of the valve by a port 30. When the valve is in the closed position, a flexible disk 7 engages the top of the cylinder 6. In a modification for use in hydraulic work, a cup-leather is used in place of the flexible disk. A flanged plate 44 on the spindle 5 deflects dirt into a chamber 50 provided with a blow-off port 45. The auxiliary valve 12, which controls the supply of inlet pressure to the space below the piston 4, is balanced by pistons 15, 18 and is closed by outlet pressure acting on a diaphragm against the action of a spring-loaded lever 27 fitted with an adjustable stop 29. When used as a surplus-pressure valve, the auxiliary valve is unbalanced.
