Abstract

11,763. Myers, C. H. May 20. Spray carburettors; vaporizers, external.- Heavy liquid fuel is supplied through a floatfeed chamber 26 to the base of a vaporizing- chamber 1 containing an absorbent cartridge 17 and heated by a circulating-medium, such as exhaust gases from an internal-combustion engine, in the jacket 21. Air entering through a hit-and-miss valve 5 mixes with the vapour. The cartridge 17 is preferably composed of a spiral of asbestos and corrugated sheet metal confined by a peripheral band 19 and sheets of gauze 20. The float consists of a corrugated cylinder 38 to which is attached a long tapered valve 34 which never seats, since capillary resistance is sufficient to prevent the inflow of fuel when the valve is nearly closed, thus preventing sticking. In a modified form of the vaporizer the chamber 1 surrounds the float chamber and the air is made to pass in direct contact with the top surface of the cartridge.
