Abstract

5468. Fievet, E. June 27, 1912, [Convention date]. Carding-engines.-In a machine for carding tow, the longer fibres in the waste which falls from the machine are separated from the dust, dirt, &c. and are collected or are returned to the carding-cylinders. The tow is fed to the cylinder 2, Fig. 1, and is acted upon by carding-rollers on the underneath of the cylinder. The waste which falls from the rollers is guided by plates &c. 3, 4, 14, 19 on to shaking-grids 5, 15. The dust &c. falls through the grids, and the longer fibres are passed on to the receptacle 7, from which they are taken up by the toothed cylinder 8 and returned to the rollers 9, 10. If it is not desired to return the longer fibres to the carding-cylinder, the receptacle 7 is done away with and the cylinder 8 has a smooth surface. The waste may fall directly on to the grids, which may feed the longer fibres (1) directly to a pair of rollers delivering them to an upper cylinder which transmits them to the carding-cylinder, or (2) to a receptacle from which they are removed by two rollers, which transmit them to another roller and thus to the large cylinder.
