Abstract

4887. Shaw, T. H. Feb. 28. Burring-apparatus; carding- engines.-Relates to improvements upon the invention described in Specification No. 29,584, A.D. 1896. The feed end of the carding-engine remains as in normal practice, the lickerin A, feed-rollers a, first working cylinder C, and working rollers c all being covered with ordinarycard filleting by which the wool is carded without being torn or damaged. Adjacent to the cylinder C is the " Morel " burring - cylinder D, described in the above-mentioned Specification, and two ordinary working rollers d<1>. The wool is stripped from the burring- cylinder D by the cylinder E, and carried forward to the main cylinder F. The burrs and dirt from the cylinder D are thrown by the roller d into a trough G, formed with a series of flat nozzles g and with an air chamber g<1> below. A current of air from these nozzles carries the burrs and dirt to the side of the machine, from which they fall into a sack or other receptacle.
