Abstract

191,137. McBlain, J. Oct. 4, 1921. Oxygen, supplying for combustion; liquid and gaseous fuel furnaces.-In the combustion of solid liquid or gaseous fuels, ozone is used wholly or in part as the oxidizing agent for the fuel, the ozone being incorporated with the fuel during gasification, atomization, and/or preparation to combustion at a comparatively low temperature to avoid reconversion of the ozone into oxygen. In the application to an oil-fired furnace, Fig. 4. the air supply is passed through an ozone generator b and is delivered under pressure by the pump n to the atomizer jets p, where it mixes with the fuel supplied by the pipe q. A supplementary supply of ozonized air may be led to the furnace by the pipe g. In the case of a gas-fired furnace or retort, the ozonized air and gas are mixed prior to delivery to the mixing chambers that feed the burners. In the application to solid fuel, the fuel is preferably delivered to the furnace in a finely divided form. and may be treated with ozone before use, or the ozonized air may be employed to feed the fuel into the furnace. Disclaiming reference is made to Specifications 6573/96, 13840/06, and 26869/06.
