Abstract

125,723. Young, J., Stephenson, H., and Kirby, A. April 18, 1918. Spray burners.-A burner for liquid fuels of a viscous nature, such as tar, or solutions of pitch in oil or tar, or oil and tar, comprises an inner fuel pipe b, having a reduced outlet surrounded by a compressed air or steam pipe a also having a reduced outlet. The jets of air or steam and. fuel pass into a cylindrical cap enclosing the outlets and constituting a mixing chamber k, and the combustible mixture is expelled through a ring of diverging orifices l which are more numerous in the upper than in the lower part of the burner head. The concentric pipes a, b are screwed into the main air supply pipe m, through which air is forced by a fan or drawn by the chimney, and also into a casting so that relative adjustment of the two pipes a, b enables the air or steam outlet p to be adjusted.
