Cylinders, construction of. - The main piston 6 has an auxiliary piston 8 supported upon it by a spring 12 for scavenging the cylinder more completely on the exhaust stroke and limiti n g the compression within a certain range. The auxiliary piston is flush with the main piston in its most extended position, and is guided by rods 9, which are not subjected to the action of the explosions and are adapted to be adjusted from outside the combustion chamber, passing through the main piston. Rings 14 prevent leakage.
