Abstract

191,025. Pieper, H. Dec. 27, 1921, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Vaporizers, external.-In vaporizers located within the induction system an easily ignitable gaseous or other fuel is burnt therein to provide the necessary heat for vaporizing the main charge. The easily ignitable fuel is drawn by suction through the nozzle 3 and mixed with combustion air which enters through the passage 2 the mixture being ignited in the chamber 1 by an electric ignition device 7. The main fuel is induced through the nozzle 8 and vaporized, the necessary air being afterwards added through the automatic valve 13. The supply to the engine is controlled by the butterfly valve 12. Solid fuel such as naphthalene may be used by melting it in a device around the vaporizing chamber 1; the spark 7 may be produced by connecting the gap in series with the engine plugs; and some of the main fuel may be burnt in the vaporizing chamber 1 by suitable control of the air entering through the passage 2. Water may be injected into the vaporizing chamber 1.
