3543. Turnbull, A. Feb. 14. Detachable - rim attachments to wheels.- An emergency tyre K, Fig. 9, carried by a rim D is secured to the wheel after the removal of the damaged tyre by a series of screw connexions C, A forming struts or ties in the plane of the wheel. In the form shown, the female member A is secured to the rim, and the male member is rotatably connected by means of a flange to a washer F, Fig. 12, adapted to be dropped between the edges C<2> of the wheel rim and then to be turned through a right-angle so that the parts J become jammed underneath the rim flanges, which are temporarily forced apart to allow the operation by means of the projections I. Creeping is prevented by a pin G, the head of which engages a recess in the bottom of the member C. In other modifications, the male member is rotatably connected to the emergency rim, and the female member may be made in one part with the washer, or the male member may be a rod oppositely screwed at its ends and engaging the screwed female member, attached to the emer-' gency rim and a screwed socket on the washer. Instead of, or in addition to, the screwed connecting-members, spring struts comprising the screwed studs M, Fig. 1, in the emergency rim, nuts N, and springs 0 may be used to fill the annular space between the wheel and emergency rims.
