Spring wheels; tyres, elastic other than pneumatic.-A flexible steel rim 2, Fig. 1, is connected to a rigid felloe 1 by cee springs 4 each attached at its outer end by a pin passing through apertured lugs 3 and the end of the spring, which is bent over to form an eye. Before the outer end of the spring is attached, the inner end is rigidly but detachably connected to the inner rim by forming it with two keyhole slots and slipping one, 8, Fig. 5, over a pin 9 and rotating the spring into the plane of the wheel when the other, 7, engages a second pin 9. Braces 12 in the form of toggle-levers are combined with some of the springs in order to provide lateral stability. A rubber tread ba d 10 is attached by means of transverse metal strips 11 which pass through it and are bent over the rim 2 ; the strips also serve to form anti-slipping ribs.
