Abstract

15,565. Holzwarth, H., and Junghans, E. July 3. Working-fluid supply; cooling and heating parts; nozzles. - A gas turbine comprises two main parts, a base-portion I containing the air, gas, and combustion chambers, the valves, and the lower bearing, and an upper portion II containing the turbine proper. A series of combustion chambers 8, are supplied through suitable valves (not shown) with gas and air from channels 13, 12 respectively. Valves 10, with water - jacketed casings 3, control the admission of combustion products to nozzles 9, situated in a removable ring 11. These valves, together with their casings, are easily removable for inspection. The turbine is arranged on a vertical shaft and is enclosed in a waterjacketed casing 7, the lower part of the casing forming a part of the base portion II. When the temperature of the exhaust exceeds a predetermined limit, a thermostat 34 excites solenoids 56, which operate armatures 57 attached to valves 31, whereby air is admitted direct from the air chamber 12 to the turbine blades for cooling. The form of thermostat may he varied, and it may be operated by the temperature of the cooling-water. The interior of the base-portion may be packed with heatinsulating material 6.
