340,421. Gas turbines. KALABEK, V., 2, Lerchova, Brunn, Czecho-Slovakia. Jan. 20, 1930, No. 2007. Convention date, Jan. 18, 1929. Addition to 319,622, [Class 110 (iii), Turbines &c.]. [Class 110 (iii.)] In a gas turbine the blades &c. of which are cooled as in the parent Specification, the cooling agent is kept separate from the working fluid, and the cooling agent for one stage of the gas turbine is taken from a corresponding stage of a second machine and is delivered after leaving this stage of the gas turbine into the next stage of the second machine. In Fig. 7 the cooling agent for the gas turbine 1 .. 4 is steam, and the second machine is a steam turbine 27 .. 31. The steam is generated by the exhaust gases in a heater K and acts alternately as a power producer and as a cooling agent as shown. In Fig. 8 the cooling agent is compressed air, the second machine being a multi-stage compresser 32 .. 36. Coolers Z are provided and the air may be used in the combustion chamber. Fig. 1 shows the arrangement of cooling passages in the gas turbine. Cooling air or steam is supplied to ports P and passes by different grooves E, F in the shaft or hub to the different rotors. It flows through holes in the rotors and blades into collecting channels A, leakage at the shrouding 21 of the blades 20, Fig. 2, being prevented by labyrinth packing 25, 26. Further cooling is effected by feeding cooling medium into the chambers in which the rotors work by means of connections N. Cooling coils 32, Fig. 3, may also be provided, and the diaphragms may be cooled by medium introducing through openings M.
