Abstract
148,823. Soc. Anon. de Turbo-Machines. Sept. 7, 1914, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Cooling parts; blades etc.; working-fluid supply. -In internal-combustion turbines working at constant pressure, the combustion is effected at a high pressure of about thirty atmospheres and the gases are expanded down to atmospheric pressure ; or if the gases are exhausted at a lower pressure, a pressure ratio of thirty to one is maintained for the expansion. The combustion chamber a is surrounded by helical channels f through which cooling-water is circulated, and similar cooling- channels are forced in the, cap i of the chamber. The gases formed by the combusticn of petrol admitted by the sprayer d and air from the pipe c are mixed with water or steam admitted through ducts f<1>, and led through nozzles in the cap i to the turbine. The turbine rotor m may be cooled by water supplied by pipes r, s to annular flanges q on the rotor; or the flanges may be omitted and the water injected against the sides of the rotor; or again the hub may be cooled by the lubricating- oil which is circulated under pressure through the shaft bearings and through a cooled coil. Cooling- liquid may also be circulated through the interior of the sprayer d. The blades, nozzles, and other parts may be coated with platinum or a fire-resisting enamel.
