Abstract
142,515. Connolly, M. Jan. 11, 1917. Working-fluid supply.-A turbine having no stator blades comprises a working-fluid generator forming part of the turbine rotor. Water is supplied by a jet J<2> to a passage h and a series of tubes u carried by the rotor T<1>, which contains refractory balls U, around which fuel from a nozzle B is burnt. The steam generated in the tubes u is led through jets T<2> to a series of expansion cells c<4> and jets arranged in axial series in the rotor, exhaust taking place through a final expansion jet E' to a jet condenser C<6>. The water jet J<2> is arranged to back off its seat automatically when the generator is sufficiently full of water. The combustion products may discharge through reaction jets D, or be delivered to the turbine jets and cells. One of the Provisional Specifications describes the rotary steamgenerator as supplying a turbine having fixed and moving blades through valves controlled by springs and centrifugal force.
