435. Fate, J. L. Jan. 7. Cold and heat retaining vessels. - A vacuumjacketed receptacle adapted for transportation purposes is formed with a circular cross-section and with curvilinear ends to withstand the atmospheric pressure, the inner walls being supported only at the neck. The vessel is made of two sheetmetal shells a, a' in a cylindro-conoidal form, and is fitted with a closure or cap with shells b, b<1> adapted to make the mouth of the vessel air-tight. The bottoms and tops of the vessel and cap are made concave to withstand the atmospheric pressure. The space c between the vessels is filled with lamp-black c' and exhausted of air. The vessel is fitted with a sealing-nipple, and an indicator to show the state of the vacuum, as described in Specifications 12,022/09 and 12,056/09, [Class 106 (ii) Dynamometers &c.], respectively.
