628,678. Jacketed containers. FREEMAN, G. H. July 29, 1947, No. 20425. Convention date, March 16, 1946. [Class 66] A container for perishable products e.g. milk, has a uniformly cylindrical metallic or non-metallic inner shell 2 with a hemispherical bottom and a metallic jacket 1 of rectangular section which converges in a shoulder 4 to join the shell 2. The base of the jacket does not touch the bottom of the shell. Handles 7, which lie wholly within the compass of the side-walls of the jacket 1, are attached to the shoulder 4. The container is closed by a double-walled cap 11. The shoulder 4 may merge into a neck 5 which is secured to the outside of the shell adjacent its mouth and the rim of the shell may be thickened to overlie the neck 5 and come flush with its outer surface. The jacketing space may be filled with heatinsulating material or may be evacuated. It is stated that the rectangular shape of the jacket facilitates close-packing of the containers during shipping.
