Abstract
<PICT:0450147/III/1> <PICT:0450147/III/2> <PICT:0450147/III/3> <PICT:0450147/III/4> Biologically active substances, such as sera, converted into a solid form, as described in Specification 450,145, by freezing and evaporation of water at low temperature under a vacuum and without comminution, are so prepared by carrying out these operations in a final container, which is then sealed without destroying the vacuum. Suitable receptacles for the product are provided, as shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 6, with rubber stoppers 3 which may be pierced by a hollow needle for evacuation of air or admission of liquid when it is desired to re-dissolve the contents and these are self sealing so that the vacuum is maintained when the needle is withdrawn. The exhaustion may also be effected through lateral tubes 4 which are then sealed off. In the form shown in Fig. 6 an opening 13 is provided which is closed by a thick rubber ring 14 through which a hollow needle may be inserted. The end of a receptacle remote from the stopper may be sealed by a rubber plug 15 which may be pressed in to eject the p liquid contents through a hypodermic needle inserted into the stopper. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 7 a bottle 1 is provided with a stopper 7 secured by a cap 9 carrying a tube 8 closed by a soft rubber stopper 11 and having a lateral sealable tube 12. Specification 450,146 also is referred to.
