Cold and heat retaining vessels for storing liquiefied air or other gases, blasting cartridges, or other substances, comprise an inner receptacle a for the substance and a number of thin sheet metal envelopes b, the space between the innermost envelope b<1> and the receptacle being evacuated as completely as possible, while the other spaces are less highly evacuated by a pump applied at an aperture o, which is afterwards sealed. The innermost space is fitted with a holder for charcoal absorbent c, and the outer spaces communicate with one another through apertures d in the envelopes. The vessel may have a, narrow or a wide mouth. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), comprises also an arrangement wherein gases such as nitrogen set free as a result of partial evaporation of the contents of the receptacle are circulated through the spaces between the envelopes. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
