Abstract
24,439. Thompson, W. P., [Smith, H.]. Nov. 1. Separating or sorting flour and meal &c.-Relates to separators of the type described in Specifications No. 11,368, A.D. 1892, and No. 19,059, A.D. 1893. The flour, meal, &c. is fed by a spout A on to a rapidly moving endless band B which throws it into compartments F<1>, F<2>, F<3>, separated by partitions G<1>, G<2>, G<3> provided with adjustable tops g<1>, g<2>, g<3>, theseparation being assisted by air currents drawn or forced through the casing. A doctor or brush, scrapes the band, and extremely light stuff passes down a passage as indicated by arrows, the portion which deposits falling through the perforated diaphragm K<1> into one or more settling-chambers K. The different grades of material falling into the compartments F<1>, F<2>, F<3> drop into purifiers L<1>, L<2> , L<3> where they are aspirated, and then fall into hoppers M', M', M3 leading to the mill for further treatment. The air inlet J and outlets I, I<1> are fitted with adjustable dampers. According to the Provisional Specification, a large pulley may be used instead of an endless band.
