Abstract
6326. W÷rner, J. March 15. Sifting and separating grain &c.-Grain, flour, and other cereals are fed from a hopper c on to a sieve a at the lower part of a closed case e, which is reciprocated by a crank disc p and pin r. A fan i, connected by nipples g to the case e, provides an exhaust ; air entering the case e through lateral slits j beneath the sieve a, and passing through the sieve separates the lighter portions of the cereals, which are deposited again as the air passes through transverse passages d extending across the case, baffles f being also provided over the entrances to the nipples g to separate the dust. The lightest portions pass out with the air through the fan, and the light portions deposited on the bafHesf and on the passages d are slowly carried by the agitation of the case e to a longitudinal passage at the back of the case e, and discharged by a tube l. The heavier impurities passing through the sieve are collected in the bottom, and discharged through an outlet m. Adjusting-valves are placed in the air passages leading from the nipples g to the fan i.
