Abstract

474,557. Pneumatic separating. AUTOMATIC COAL CLEANING CO., Ltd. Jan. 12, 1937, No. 932. Convention date, Jan. 18, 1936. [Class 117] In a pneumatic separator the material is fed into one or more chambers wherein it is divided into a number of similar streams which are caused to travel at right-angles to the air current rising through the chamber or chambers and the air with the entrained products then traverses one or more additional separating chambers. In the form shown, the material from the inlet 8 is subdivided into similar streams transverse to the chamber 1 by the angle member 12 and may be further subdivided by grids 17. The heavier material is similarly treated in chamber 2. The grids 17 or the chambers 1 and 2 may be vibrated by a device 33 if desired. The air which may be heated, entering at 20 and passing through the duct 5 carries the lighter particles into the chambers 3, 4 fitted with louvres 23 and any heavier particles remaining are collected at 28 and 29 and may be returned to the chamber 2.
