Mangling-machines.-In box mangles, in which rolls i are enwrapped in clothes and pressed between a lower fixed table f and an upper reciprocating table c, the lower table is pressed upwards by a spring A of the carriage type, directly in the centre, and through levers g pivoted on the legs k at the sides. The upper table is guided by rollers e supported from the table, which run in guides n provided with notches or rising surfaces so arranged as to allow one end of the upper table to be lifted by the driving-chain at the end of its motion, so that one of the rolls i may be removed. This driving- chain passes over a chain-wheel y on a sleeve x round the transverse shaft s. The shaft s is driven by the handle b through geared wheels at one side of the machine and itself operates the sleeve x through geared wheels at the other side. A table top may be placed over the apparatus when not in use as a mangle.
