Abstract
8157. Allenby, A. H. April 4. G u a rd s.-A guard for ironing- machines and the like consists of a wire lattice plate 4 held between end bars 3 which are hinged at their upper ends to adjustable bars attached to the framing. This plate covers the line of contact of the rollers. A rod 2 extends along the front of the plate, and to one end is fixed a link 7, the other end of which is attached to a lever 8, which is pivoted at 9, and normally rests in a slot 12 in the bar 13. The articles are fed in between the bar 2 and the lower roller ; if the fingers of the operator get under inadvertently, the lever 8 is lifted by the link 7, and the spring 14 operates and slides the bar 13, thereby shifting the belt to the loose pulley by means of the fork 19. The lever 22 is for resetting the machine.
