WALDERMA C, SCHAUFLER, OF MOHAWK, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO PROSPERITY COMPANY INC., 013 SYRACUSE, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
WORK CONVEYER FOR LAUNDRY AND GARMENT-PRESSING MACHINES.
Application filed February 24, 1923. Serial No. 621,029.
To all wiwm it may-concern:
Be it known that I, WALDERMA C. SOHAUF- LER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Mohawk, in the county of Herkimer and State of New York;- have invented a certain new and useful Work Conveyer for Laundry and Garment-Pressing Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pressing machines such as are used in laundries, clothing factories and knitting mills to press or iron articles, and has for its-object a particularly simple and eflicient conveyer for carrying the articles to be pressed into pressing position, and removing them after the ressing operation, which conveyer is read- 1ly applied to the machine, is simple and rapid in operation. The invention consists.
in the novel features, and in the combinations and constructions hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In describing this invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pressing machine embodying my invention, parts of the machine being omitted and the carrier being shown in section.
Figures 2 and 3 are respectively, a plan view and front elevation, parts being broken away in both views.
The pressing machine, here shown, is of the type comprising upper and lower pressing elements, one of which, as the upper pressing. element, is movable toward and from the other by suitable mechanism actuated by power.
1 designates the lower pressing element or buck which is mounted on the frame 2. 3 is the upper pressing element or head carried by a frame lever 4 pivoted at 5 to an upwardly extending standard 6 on the main frame, and actuated through toggle links, and mechanism for actuating said links.
The machine here shown is adapted particularly for pressing or ironing knitted garments and laundry work and the elements so 1 and 3 are considerably larger than the machines.
This invention comprises means for feeding the articles to be ironed or pressed bepressing elements used in clothes pressing tween the pressing element and removing them after-each pressing operation.
Sa1d means comprises an endless conveyer belt 9 preferably formed of fabric, as canvas, such belt running between the pressing elements 1, 3 across the pressing face of the lower buck 1 from one side of the machine to the other, such belt extending beyond the ends of the buck 1 to opposite sides of the machine far enough to provide a support at 10 at one side of the machine for the articles to be'pressed, and at 11 at the other side for the pressed articles. In this embodiment of my invention, each run of the conveyer is about three times as long as the lower buck. The belt 9 is arranged so that both runs 13, 14 thereof pass between the pressing elements 1, 3 and over the pressing face of the lower element or buck 1. The belt 9 runs over main rollers 15, 16 supported by frames 17 at opposite sides of the frame 2 of the pressing machine and the-lower run 14 rides on rollers 18 located at opposite ends of the lower buck 3. The lower run let also runs over rollers 19 supported by the frames 17 near the main rollers 15,16. These support- 1ng rollers are arranged to support the belt or the runs thereof in a horizontal plane flush with the other face of the lower pressing element 1 or slightly above the plane of the face of said element.
The belt may be actuated in any suitable manner, and as here illustrated, it is actuated from a power shaft 20 having a loose pulley 21 thereon, a belt 22 running over the pulley 21, and over a pulley 23 on the axle 24 of the main roller 16, and a clutch 25 shiftable into and out of connection with.the loose pulley 21 to connect and disconnect it and the power shaft. The clutch is shifted by a suitable lever 26.
The power shaft 20 is here shown. as conclutch 25 into engagement with the loose pulley 21, whereupon the belt or the upper run thereof travels to the right. W hen the articles are earned between the pressing element 1, 3, the handle 26 is operated to disconnect the clutch 25 from the loose pulley 21. The operator then operates the pressing machineto bring down the upper pressing element or head onto the articles and press them between the upper and lower pressing elements While'such articles are on the belt. While the pressing operation is going on, the operator arranges another article or batch of articles on the portion 10 of the belt. He then operates the pressing machine to raise the upper pressing head 3, and then shifts the lever 26 to clutch the loose pulley '21- to the power shaft 20 so that the belt is actuated to carry the pressed articles out from between the pressing elements to the portion 11 of the belt, and also carries the articles or portion 10 of the belt into pressing position. The pressing machine is again operated to close t e upper element 3 down on the articles on the belt. The pressed articles are removed from the portion 11 of the belt, a new article or batch of articles arranged on the portion 10, and the operations repeated.
What I claim is:
I 1. The combination with a pressing machine comprising a frame formed with a table, upper and lower pressing elements, one of which is movable toward and from the other, the upper pressing element being supported at the rear side of the machine and of the lower pressing element and the means supporting the lower pressing element bein located vertically below such element, w ereby the machine in front of said elements is unobstructed; of means for feeding the work between and removing the same from between said elements comprising an endless belt arranged with both runs contiguous to each other over the pressing face of the'lower element, the belt extending beyond the ends of the pressing elements to provide a support on one side of the machine for the work to be pressed and a support on the other side of the machine for the finished Work and means for operating the machine and the belt.
2. The combination with apressing machine comprising a frame including a table, a lower buck supported on the table to overhang the same, a press head, a lever supporting the press head and being pivoted to the frame at the rear of the buck and the press head, means for feeding the work between and removing it from between the buck and the press head comprising a belt arranged with both runs contiguous to each other between the buck and the press head,
the belt extending beyond the ends of the buck to provide a support on one side of I the machine. for the work to be pressed and a support on the other side of the machine for the finished work and means for operating the lever supporting the press head and for operating the belt.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto si ned my name,- at Mohawk, in the county of Herkimer and State of New York, this 27 day of J any, 1923.
WALDERMA SCHAUFLER.
