The heated bed M, Fig. 2, is made with a fluted surface. The padded roll C is carried on the lever H, which, when turned down, is supported by the levers h<1>, h<2>, and counterweight g, in position for the toothed wheel Z to gear with the driving-pinion w. In the machine shown in Fig. 4, the articles are carried between the band c and the corrugated ironing-roll d, which are driven in opposite directions. The ironing-sector M, Fig. 5, has a corrugated inner surface, and is reciprocated about the padded cylinder C by means of the handle o. In a similar machine, the ironing-sector and padded roller are rotated in opposite directions by means of driving- belts. A machine similar to that shown in Fig. 2, with a smooth bed, is employed for mangling or calendering, and a corrugated plate of suitable shape is interposed between the bed and the roller when used for ironing.
