The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all 'willem 'it may concern:
Bc it known that I, DALEMBERT T. GALn, of Poughkeepsie, Dutchess county, in the State of New York, 4have invented anew and improved `Washer and VVringer; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full,.clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and usc the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Figures l and 2 represent vertical longitudinal sections of my improved Washer and wringer, showing the board in ditierent positions.
Figure 3 is a detail transverse section of the same, taken on the line x x, iig. 2.

The object of `this invention is to construct a. convenient apparatus, which can be used both for washing and wringing garments, and which is of very simple arrangement, and easily manipulated.
The invention consists, chiefly, in the arrangement corresponding of a reversible wash-board, of which one side is corrugated or roughened, for washing-purposes, while the other side is smooth or provided with smooth rollers, to be used for wringing clothes after they are washed.
The board is iitted into a 'stationary frame, in which it can lbe moved to and fro, and is used iu conjunction with adjustable rollers, that are acted upon/by springs.
A, in the'drawing, represents the frame for holding my improved wash-board. It is to bc secured in a suitable sluis-box, for which purpose I prefer to use a tub, B, supported on legs a, and provided, with a faucet or equivalent opening, b, t'or discharging the suds. The side boards ofthe i'ame are grooved or ra-bbetcd, to serve as guides or rails for the wash-board .(l.
rl`he board C is smooth on one side, and corrugated or roughened on the other side. It is or may be provided with rollers c c, which support it on the frame 7 and cause it tomove with but little friction.
From thev frame A project ears el (Z,- which serve as bearings for one of two rollers D E.
The roller l) is corrugated, and E is smooth, as shown.
Springs F F press upon the journals of the rollers, tohold their faces in `cont-act `with the wash-board.
The corrugated roller is to be used onthe corrugated surface ofthe wash-board, as in iig. 1, to produce a perfect washilig-machine.
lhc smooth roller will be used ou the smooth su'rface, as in iig 2, to constitute a wringer. The smooth side of the wash-board may contain rollers, if it is dcsircd to make the device still more pelt'ect.
The smooth roller may, however, also be used on the corrugated wash-board, and the corrugated roller ou the smooth surface, if desired.
The machine is operated by either revolving the roller, by means ot a crank, or by moving the washboard to and fro in the frame.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent* l. The board C, arranged in a frame, A, and made reversible therein, to be used for washing, iu combination with roller I), as set forth.
2. The rollers D E, arranged on the frame A, for the purpose of operating alternately with the rcversible reciprocating wash-board, substantially as herein shown and described.
. 3. A combined washegn and 'wringcr, consisting of the frame A, reversible wash-board C, rollers l) E, and
springsr F, all arranged to opera-te substantially as herein shown and described.
DALEMBERT T. GALE.
