Description
@stent @Mine AMBROSE TOWER. OF NEW YORKKMN. Y.
Letters-.Patent No. 96,511, dated Noeember 2. 1869.
IMPROVEMNT IN CLOTHES-WRING-ERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making p ark of the same. I
To 'llmznomit may concern Be it known that I, ANBROSE TOWER, ot New York city, in the county of New York, andvState of New York, have invented a new and valuable lmprovement in Clothes-\Vriugers; and I do hereby de- -c-lare that the tollowing is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe constriction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part ot' this specification, and to the letters and figures otreterenee marked thereon.
Figure l, ot' the drawings, is a top plan view of my invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view ofthe. same.
My invention relates to means for washing and wringing clothes; and
It consists mainly in a novel arrangement ot' devices, intended to serve an etticient purpose in such washingr and wringing.
The letter A, of' the drawings, represents a wasbboard constructed inthe ordinary t'ortn, except that its sides are lengthened at-their tops to' serve the purpose of a frame for the wringillg-apparatns hereinafter described. l
The letters c represent hooks attached to the washboard, aud-which are intended to clasp over the top of one side of a Wasb-tub, to bold the board iu place while the washing and wringing-process is being earred ou.
.The letters D represent t-wo rubber rollers, arranged as wringers. One of these rollers works in bearings upon the upper side of the wash-board, and the other has its bearings upouthe lower side thereof, their relative position to each other being shown on fig. 2 of ythe drawings.
wash-imam, their upper ends being curved, as shown,
to provide means for holding the shafts ot' the rollers ill place. These springs E are moved and operated by the set-screws H, and serve asmeansibr adjusting the wringers, and permitting,r them to be separated by the passage ol' elothinw.-
The letters 'u represent guards aixed by screws to the side pieces ot' the wash-board, and are removable at will. f
The letter S represents what I call the hand-rest. It consists of a, bloek or crosslbar, screwed to the top ot' the wash-board frame above the wringer, and serves as a convenient rest for one hand of the operator, while the other is engaged in turning the wringererank, and also as means t'or pressingr down the board, and thereby holding it firmly iu the tub.
That- I claim asiuy invention, and desire to secure by Letterslatent, is-
.A combined washer and wringer, having boa-rd A, wriuger D, springs E, set-screws H, guauds 1f, hooks c, and hand-rest S, constructed and arranged substantially as specitied. A.
In testimony that I claim the above, I have hereunto subscribed my name, in the presence ot' two witnesses Y Witnesses: AMBROSE TOWER.
