Superheaters, steam.-A casing for a superheater is divided by partitions into vertical chambers b, c, c<1>, d, of which the chamber b for the reception of the superheater is placed nearest the ends of the boiler tubes, and the others, surrounding it, protect the superheater against loss of heat, and serve, at times, as passages for directly conducting away the products of combustion. The partition e is attached to the door of the casing, and the side wall i of the chamber b may be raised by chains k<1>, k<2> in order to render the ends of the boiler tubes readily accessible. The bottom of the chamber b consists of a flap g, which may be raised and lowered by the external handle p<1>. The flap may be provided with side pieces o in the planes of the partitions h, h<1> ; in some cases, it extends the whole width of the casing. In a modification, the chamber b is placed entirely above the level of the boiler tubes. In another modification, the arrangement of parts as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 is inverted, the hot gases passing downwards through the superheater.
