U-tube superheaters.-In a vertical boiler of the type having cross flue-tubes, the combustion chamber or the smoke-box is exteneded laterally on one or both sides to receive a steam-superheater, which is thus placed out of the direct heat of the furnace gases and so as not to interfere with the removal or repair of a damaged fluetube. Superheaters consisting of U-tubes F opening into lower boxes H and an upper divided boxes G are shown fitted in extensions on both sides of a combustion chamber C.
