Abstract
5790. Irvine, G. M. L. Moore-. Oct. 16. Steam-generator furnace flues and fire-boxes.-The internal furnace flue of a Cornish or the like boiler is formed with vertical parallel sides, and the top of the flue, or, in the case of a locomotive boiler, the crown of the firebox, is formed with longitudinal channels a having vertical parallel sides and curved tops. The channels may be enclosed by plates a<2> to form water spaces or steam-superheating chambers. One or more water or steam pipes may be placed in the corrugations inside the flue for the purpose of heating feed-water or superheating steam. Water or fire tubes a<3>, Fig. 3, may be placed across the channels.
