Abstract

1443. Grubinski, J. de, and Grubinski, M. de. Jan. 18. Superheating-chambers heated by furnace gases. - In a superheater disposed above the smoke-box of a locomotive boiler and consisting of chambers connected by annular passages around smoke-tubes, to increase the heating- surface without impeding the passage of gases from the boiler flue-tubes, the tubes of the superheater are extended in step-fashion into the smoke-box. The superheater shown consists of a casing divided by partitions 16, 17 into three chambers 18, 19, 20 and traversed by smoke - tubes 14 surrounded by tubes 15. Saturated steam enters the chamber 18 and is conducted by the annular passages between the tubes 14, 15 through the chambers 19, 20 in succession. The central group of tubes is extended into the smoke-box. Tubes 13 are inserted in the boiler flue-tubes 3 to conduct hightemperature gases to the superheater. Helical baffles are arranged in the spaces between the tubes 14, 15. Steam is conducted to the superheater from the lower part of the divided dome 5, and is conducted back to the upper parts 8 of the dome by a pipe 11.
