Abstract

22,914. Weddigen, E. Oct. 5, 1909, [Convention date]. Sinuous - tube superheaters; firetubes with superheating - jackets. -In a superheater arranged above a locomotive boiler and heated by furnace gases led from the top of the fire-box, the steam is preliminarily superheated by flowing around the smoke - tubes conducting the gases from the fire - box to the superheater-chamber. A divided steam-chamber placed between the boiler shell and the superheater-chamber distributes the steam to and collects it from the preliminary superheater. Steam is led from the dome of the boiler through a pipe R to the lower compartment of the divided steamchamber z, and is conducted downwards and upwards through annular spaces formed by pipes b, c, Fig. 4, arranged around the smoketubes a, which conduct the gases from the firebox to the superheater-chamber. The pipes b open into the upper compartment of the chamber z, from which the preliminarily superheated steam is led into the superheater proper, consisting, in the arrangement shown, of coiled tubes opening into an outlet header K. Pipes d, surrounding the concentric pipes a, b, c, and containing stagnant furnace gases, prevent the contact of wet steam with the surfaces of the superheating-tubes c.
