and I do hereby declare the following to be,
a full, clear, and exact description of the in- 1o rvention, such. as will enable othersskilled lin the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to steam-boilers, and l especially to boilers with an internal fire-bo The object of my invention is tollprovide an effective water circulation in a bo er the firebox of which is surrounded with water by a peculiar arrangement of Water-tubes.

In this way the water-chamber is separated from the interior of the fire-box; but in order to pro- 45 vide a greater heating-surface two sets of water-tubes project into the passa e of the heating-gases. One set of these tu es 6 extends at one'end through the top ofthe fire-l box and at the other end through the side 5o thereof, and the tubes 7 of the other set extend through the side thereof. v
The lboiler is rovided with a fire-door 8, which leadsto t e fireplace, where a grate 9 is arranged which closes the fire-box at the lower end.
The heating-gases iiow around the bunches of water-tubes to the flue-pipe, whereto a smoke-stack 10 is attached, the draft of which may be increased 'by the exhaustpipe 11.
The Steam generated within the boilers passes through pipes 12 13 into a superheater, which consists of two coils of piping 14 15, centrally arran ed within the flue-pipe and the fire-box in t e passage of heatinggases. The two coils of piping are further connected with a steam-chamber or header 16.
The outer shell of the boiler is provided with a blow-off 17 .and manholes 18 18. Other openings 19 20 are arranged opposite to Water-tubes in order ,to permit of access to the Water-chamber and the water-tubes, which maybe cleaned or tightened through these openin s.
There migt be provided a hole for each tube orone big opening for a greater number of tubes; but as the first arrangement involves many openings close together, while the other one requires large openings, both of which are hard to keep tight, I prefer to arrange cleaning-holes whereof each serves for a few tubes only, preferably for two. The tubes are arranged in such a Way that two or a few of them, running together at an angle a, as shown in Fig. 1, thereby face a cleaning-hole arranged opposite these oonverging tube ends.
In order that the outer shell may be easily removed, the same is divided in two parts 1 and 21, which are, connected by flanges 22 23. The division is above the {ire-door, so that b v removing the upper part of the tubular shell the ends of the water-tubes, as well as the upper part of the re-box, are accessible. Another iange 26 connects the annular top of the boiler-shell with the fire-box flue 4, whereby after cutting the rivets, which are passed through said top and the ilange, the boiler-top may be removed without damaging the flue or the flue may be removed without injuring the top.
For that part of the outer shell where the cleaning-holes 19 20 are arranged I prefer to take a special plate 24, and I also prefer to arrange a 'special tubular part 25 for the firebox, in which the lower ends of all or of some ofthe Water-tubes are secured, because such arrangement permits of a better working;
but corrugated plates only may also be used for the whole wall of the fire-box.

l i 2 l s, i i l i with the burning gases they cause a lively circulation of the water in the water-chamber, -which circulation is increased by the peculiar arrangement of the water-tubes, by which different portions of the water in the annular part of the water chamber are brought in communication not only with each other, but -also with the'water parts. above the top plate of the fire-box. Consequently the generation of'steain is more general, and thereby quicker.
= The danger that the tubes may be covered by soot and ashes is avoided, as enough space is left between the tubes to give a sufficient draft.
My peculiar arrangement of the ends of the tubes and the holes in the outer shell provides eHective means by which the tubes are accessible for cleaning and tightening without endangering the tightness of the boiler. The tubes are removed through the hre-box.
My invention may not only be applied to boilers of ,an upright type, but to fire-box boilers of any system` What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a steam-boiler an outer shell and an `internal fire-box, corrugated plates forming the wall of said fire-box, in combination with a Hat top for said lire-box, water-tubes in said fire-box, some of said tubes having both ends secured in the corrugated wall-plates of said box and others of tubes having one end in the Wall-plates of said {ire-box and the other end in the flat top plate of said box, the cylindrical outer shell having cleaningholes opposite to the ends of' the tubes, su'bstantially as described.
2. In a steam-boiler an outer shell and an internal lire-box, corrugated plates forming the wall of said lire-box, in combination with a flat top for said lire-box, water-tubes in said {ire-box, some of said tubes having both ends secured in the corrugated wallplates of said box and others of tubes having one end in the wall-plates of said fire-box land the other end in the flat topplate of said box, and the cylindrical outer shell having cleaning-holes, the ends of a bunch of neighboring tubes converging toward each oppo-- site hole in the outer shell, substantially as I described.
. 3. In a steam-boiler an outer shell and an internal fire-box, corrugated plates forming with a flat top for said fire-box, water-tubes in said fire-box, some of said tubes having both ends secured in the corrugated Wallplates of said box and others of tubes having .one end in the wall-plates of said fire-box o and the other end in the flat top platevof said box, the cylindrical outer shell having cleaning-holes, the ends of a bunch of neighboring tu es converging toward each opposite hle in the outer shell and two superheater-coils 65 within said fire-box, substantially as described.
4. In a steam-boiler the combination of an outer shell comprising two parts, flanges connecting said two parts, an internal lire-box, 7o corrugated platesfor the wall of said box, a plain tubular part in said fire-box, wherein one end of the water-tubes is arranged, a top plate to the fire-box, a flue-pipe upon said top plate, a flange riveted to said flue-pipe 75 and connecting it with the top plate of the outer shell, water-tubes within the fire-box, and a superheater within said flue-pipe, said outer shell having said fire-box and cleaningholes in the cylindrical part thereof opposite 8o to the ends of said tubes, substantially as described.
5. In a steam-boiler the combination of an outer shell comprising two parts, an es connecting said two parts, an internal e-box, 85 corrugated plates for the wall of said box, a plain tubular part in said lire-box, wherein the water-tubes are secured, atop plate to said fire-box, a flue-pipe upon said top plate,
a fiange riveted to said Hue-pipe and connect- 9o ing it with the top plate of the outer shell, water-tubes within the {ire-box connecting points of the cylindrical Wall of the fire-box, tubes connecting points of the cylindrical wall with points of the top plate of said fire- 95 box, said tubes forming bunches with the ends running together and toward cleaningholes arranged in the cylindrical part of the outer shell and superheater-coils within said flue-pipe and said fire-box, substantially as 10o described.
