Abstract

Vertical boilers; water-tube boilers.-The space around a vertical boiler fire-box fitted with cross water-tubes is divided into two or more vertical sections c bounded on the outside by the circular or partly circular wall of the shell, and on the inside by tube-plates x extending to the shell, the sections communicating with one another through transverse water-tubes d, and opening at the top or at the top and bottom into the main water space of the boiler. Vertical water-tubes e may be fitted in the spaces between the sections. The sections may be closed at their lower ends, and Field tubes may depend from the main water space into the fire-box. The lower ends of the sections may open into lateral water chambers within the boiler shell and in communication with the main water space.
