8141. Robinson, J. G. April 4. Fire-tubes, arrangements of superheating- tubes in.-A header for a steam-superheater to be placed in a locomotive smoke-box consists of an upper chamber, preferably for saturated steam, and a series of connected lower chambers, preferably for superheated steam. The upper chamber 1 is shaped as shown to fit into the smoke-box, and has a flat bottom 9, to which are attached the lower chambers 2, 3, 4, 5. The superheating-tubes 22, 23 are connected to the bottoms of the chambers 2, 3, 4, 5 and to the plate 9 between them. The chambers 2, 3, 4, 5 may be connected by a passage at the back of the superheater or by pipes. The chambers are formed with openings on their front faces provided with cover-plates.
