Abstract
190,487. Borgo, E. M. Dec. 19, 1921, [Convention date]. Moulds; cores.-In an aluminium or other piston which is made by chill casting or casting under pressure &c. the skirt 5, Fig. 3, is spaced from the head and is connected, to it by the gudgeon-pin bearings 4, a diametral web 6, cut away, as shown, around the gudgeon pin, and by two lateral webs 7, which are connected to the head by diametral webs above the bearings 4. The mould 10, Fig. 5, is in two parts with a diametral core 11 recessed at 11<1> to form the web 6. The spaces between the webs 7 and the piston body are formed by cores 13, 14, the gudgeon-pin bearings being gapped as shown at 4<1>, Fig. 3, to permit the withdrawal of the ccres 14. The contours of the webs 7 and the piojecting portions of the bearings 4 are formed by cores 12, the width of which is less than half the distance a, Fig. 3, while the bore of the bearings 4 is formed by cylindrical cores 15.
