Abstract
10,288. Cox, D. S. May 6. Motor cycles; driving-mechanism. - In a twospeed gear for motor cycles, wheels B, A, secured to a countershaft G, are connected, respectively, by bands or chains to a wheel C capable of being clutched to the power shaft F, and to a wheel D, which may run free when turning over from right to left. Thus, when the wheel C is clutched to its shaft, the power is transmitted through the wheel B to the countershaft and thence to the driving-wheel, while the wheel D, driven from the wheel A, is turned faster than its shaft, and the low gear is out of action. To give the low speed, the wheel C is released from the power shaft, when the wheel D commences to drive the wheel A, the wheel C, in the meantime, being free.
