Variable - speed gearing for a wire - drawing machine has a number of pulleys a, b, c, d to which toothed wheels j, k, l are connected, these wheels driving a shaft g, pawls or clutches p, q being arranged to allow the wheels for the slower speeds to overrun. The pulley d is idle; the pulley a drives its wheel through a sleeve h to give the slowest speed; the wheel b drives its wheel l through the shaft to give the next speed; and the wheel c drives through a sleeve i to give the highest speed. Specifications 2924/97, 3160/01, 14,901/03, and 2891/09 are referred to.
