24,727. Cooper, E. L. Dec. 4. Centrifugal governors combined with air and gas engine valve-gear.-Relates to the regulation of the speed and power in internal-combustion engines having two or more cylinders, especially for motor cars. The cams which operate the exhaust valves of the cylinders, in the case of a two-cylinder engine, are in the form of two separate sleeves d, e capable of sliding on the second-motion shaft c and pressed apart by a spring l. The sleeve d is adjusted along the shaft by a centrifugal governor a, b mounted on the shaft c, and the sleeve e can be adjusted by a hand-lever k. The cam on the sleeve e is kept out of action by the spring l, so that the corresponding cylinder does no work, until, when more power is required, the cam e is brought into action by the lever k. When this happens, the increased tension of the spring l acting on the governor causes the other cylinder to work at full power.
