Abstract
3114. Haddan, R., [MacFarlane, W.]. Feb. 16. Water-tube boilers.-Several sections (three being shown) are arranged side by side, each consisting of a longitudinal steam drum A and water drum B connected together by downcomers C at their ends, and by a number of vertical tubes F. The tubes F form a wall along one side, and project upwards to form a superheater. The downcomers may be prolonged to mud drums below. From the tubes F project horizontal close-ended tubes J forming horizontal partitions, and a number of smaller generating-tubes L. The tubes F on one side are prolonged downwards to form the walls of the furnace at that side, the water drum B<1> being arranged at a lower level, while on the other side, and at the rear, are independent walls of tubes N, connected together and to the downcomers at opposite corners by horizontal tubes O. The various sections are connected together by horizontal pipes D above and below, and back and front. The tubes F of intermediate sections may also, if desired, be prolonged to subdivide the furnace, the water drums, in that case, being arranged at a lower level.
