348,268. Furnace walls. STEINMœLLER, L., 59, Grotenbachstrasse, Gummersbach, Rhineland, Germany. March 6, 1930, No. 7355. [Class 51 (i).] Water-tubes a protecting furnace chamber walls are provided with transverse ribs b mounted in the manner of a Venetian blind on the side of the tubes facing towards the wall w. Bridge-pieces c, c<1>, c<2> may be provided between some of the ribs and the tubes, if desired arranged laterally of the tubes so as partially to form longitudinal ribs. The ribs may be rectangular as shown, semi-circular, crescent-shaped, or elliptical, and may, in some cases, extend to the front of the tubes. The ribs on the upper and lower parts of the tubes may slope in opposite directions, and the distance between ribs may increase from the centre of the tube upwards. The ribs may carry blocks el, e<5>, which have projections f at the front or back edges respectively. The blocks may extend between adjacent tubes, or enclose the tube on its front side, or a number may be united to slide over a number of tubes. The rib b may be formed with flanges g<1>, g<2>, Fig. 9, so as to carry bricks. The tubes are connected with headers a<1>, a<2>, which are connected with the water and steam spaces of the boiler, while there may be a separate downcomer between the headers.
