Walls ; crowns and roofs; cooling. - In a furnace as described in the parent Specification, the external headers 1 - - 8, Fig. 6, or certain of them arranged at the ends of the tubes a in the furnace walls bare located in recesses x, y, z in the walls. The downcast headers 1 - - 4 are connected to the water space of the drum c, Fig. 5, by piping 9, and the upcast headers 5 - - 8 are connected to the steam space of the drum c by piping 10. The brickwork arch d of the furnace is provided as shown in Fig. 11, with water-circulating tubes e connected to upper and lower horizontal headers 11, the upper header being connected to the piping 10 while the lower header is connected to the piping 9. A cooling screen formed of slightly inclined tubes may be arranged at the base of the furnace and connected to horizontal headers, the lower one of which is connected to the piping 9 while the upper one is connected to the piping 10.
